About Us

 The North Iowa Regional Housing Authority (NIRHA) was established in 1978 by a 28E Agreement. This Agreement authorizes NIRHA to provide assistance in eight counties:  Cerro Gordo (excluding city of Mason City), Floyd (excluding city of Charles City), Franklin, Hancock, Kossuth, Mitchell (excluding city of Riceville) Winnebago and Worth.

NIRHA was established for the purpose of assisting low income individuals and families by providing secure safe, decent and affordable housing.  To achieve this goal, an eight member Board of Commissioners is appointed by the County Board of Supervisors of each participating county. 

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides federal funds and regulatory policies and regulations for appropriate program administration. Federally funded, NIRHA currently owns and operates 121 public housing units in ten communities in addition to contract authority to administer 383 Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8 Program). 

 The North Iowa Regional Housing Authority office is located on the second floor Suite 203 of the Peterson Plaza building at 202 First Street SE in Mason City, IA.

If you are traveling from the east on Hwy 122, follow the highway into Mason City until you reach South Pennsylvania Avenue. Turn right and follow South Pennsylvania Ave until you reach First St SE. Turn right onto First St SE. Peterson Plaza is on the northeast corner of the intersection. You may park on the street or in the parking lot to the east of the building.

If you are traveling from the west on Hwy 122/ Hwy 18, follow the highway through Mason City until you reach S Federal Ave/ Hwy 65. Turn left and follow S Federal Ave. The road will split and become S Delaware Ave and you will see the Southbridge Mall. Take a right at First St SE and go one block. Peterson Plaza is on the northeast corner of the intersection. You may park on the street or in the parking lot to the east of the building.

If you are traveling from the south on Hwy 65, follow the highway through Mason City. The highway will split and the street will become S Delaware Ave. You will see the Southbridge Mall. Take a right at First St SE and go one block. Peterson Plaza is on the northeast corner of the intersection. You may park on the street or in the parking lot to the east of the building.

If you are traveling from the north on Hwy 65, follow the highway through Mason City. Turn left at 13th St NE. Turn right at North Pennsylvania Ave. Follow Pennsylvania until you reach First St SE. Be careful, because there will also be a First St NE. Do not turn on First St NE. Turn left on First St SE. Peterson Plaza is on the northeast corner of the intersection. You may park on the street or in the parking lot to the east of the building.
